Academic Film Making part 1

About this session

Date: November 2024

Presenters: Dr Robert O'Toole and Lilly from ElevenLabs

Main follow-up contact: Robert O'Toole

Overview: Phone cameras and free editing tools have made it easy for us to record good quality video footage with little preparation or technical knowledge. At the same time, video has become a popular and widely accepted way to present academic ideas. Taking inspiration from great academic film makers like Waldemar Januszczak, Lucy Worsley, and Time Team, we can make our own great videos combining basic tech with creative inspiration. This video explores how to design a great video to convey academic ideas and stories, and to make the desired impact on our audience. We analayze good examples, and see how even the most breathtaking effects and edits are possible.
