The Role of History in the Age of Fake News: Panel discussion organised by the History Department and Warwick Globalist

- Export as iCalendar
Location: Oculus OC0.01

How new is fake news? This panel session and discussion will explore whether contemporary fake news marks a break from the past or a reworking of longer trends. Panelists will examine a range of past examples of fake news, from the role of 'truth' during the English Civil War and the activities of the East India Company, to rumours surrounding the supernatural, including vampires in colonial East Africa and fairies in early 20th century Britain. In doing so, the panel will also address the broad issues of the importance of history and of historians in the current 'age of fake news'. The event is co-organised by the History Department and Warwick Globalist.
