Migration, Identity and Translation Network: Lost in translation?
The Migration, Identity and Translation Network (MITN) would like to invite you to our upcoming Shakespeare Workshop 'Lost in translation?'. We are an interdisciplinary research network based at Warwick and Monash that connects research students, early career researchers and senior academics who are interested in exploring issues relating to migration, identity, language and translation from various disciplinary perspectives. We would be delighted to welcome you to the following event;
Lost in translation?
Performing Shakespeare in other languages.
Wednesday 5th February, 9:30-11:30, WBS Create Suite
This interactive workshop, led by Piers Ibbotson, former Assistant Director of the Royal Shakespeare Company, explores the challenge of performing Shakespeare in translation. Participants will explore the connection between voice, verse and emotion and review different translations of the same text in order to investigate the impact on both the speaker and the audience of the same dramatic moment articulated in different languages, exploring the embodiment of meaning and the impact of the specific language on understanding and emotional content. Please see attached for a full abstract.
This event will be live streamed to participants in Monash University, Australia and the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, India.
