Feminist History Group-CHM seminar: Dr Jane Freeland (QMUL) 'Reforming Rape: East German Women’s Activism against Sexual Violence'

- Export as iCalendar
Location: H5.45 Humanities building, University of Warwick

Presentation, refreshments, discussion. All are welcome. Refreshments will be available in the Grad Space (4th floor Humanities extension) from 4.30pm.

This talk will examine women’s activism against sexual and domestic violence in East Germany. It will explore how activists understood violence against women, and how this contrasted both to the way the socialist regime and West German feminists defined the issue. In doing so, it will reflect on the role of feminism and women’s rights in shaping the political landscape of Germany and East German women’s contribution to this transformation.
