Upcoming Book Talk, 20th June: The Hygienic Apparatus | Paul Dobryden in Conversation with the Weimar Film NetworkOnlineThe co-editors of the Weimar Film Network (Molly Harrabin and Lawrence Alexander) are delighted to welcome Paul Dobryden (University of Virginia) for a discussion of his new monograph The Hygienic Apparatus: Weimar Cinema and Environmental Disorder published by Northwestern University Press. Dobryden traces how the environmental effects of industrialization reverberated through the cinema of Germany's Weimar Republic from Kulturfilme to Kuhle Wampe. Michael Cowan has noted how ‘this study brilliantly unpacks the imbrications between early German cinema and a pervasive concern with hygiene, understood as a set of ideas and techniques for managing the interactions between bodies and environments.’ The event will take place online at 4pm (BST) on 20th June 2022. Please register your attendance here! Participants will also be able to get 30% off when buying The Hygienic Apparatus from Eurospan. We hope many of you can join us for a discussion of this timely new publication! |
