Archival Careers talk with Dr. Joanne Shortland

I am responsible for the Corporate Archive of Jaguar Cars (Jaguar Land Rover), including the artefacts and artwork collections. I sit within the Senior Leadership Team reporting to our Board of Trustees. I am the strategic lead for all aspects of collection development, engagement, compliance and sectorial developments. My team consist of 2 staff and 10 volunteers. 

My career in archives started in 2006 as an Archive and Conservation Assistant at Warwickshire County Record Office where I completed their graduate training program. My first Archivist position came in 2008 at the Open University working on a projects of police records, moving on to Westminster City and Sheffield City Archives. I was one of four Project Archivists to have the honour of working on the Hillsborough Disaster Disclosure Project for the Home Office. In 2013 I held a records management role at JLR in Vehicle Safety Testing before heading up the JDHT Archive in 2018. 

My academic qualifications include an BA Hons in Medieval Studies at the University of Birmingham (2004) and an MA in the Culture of the European Renaissance University of Warwick (2006). I further studied for my MA in Archive Administration at the University of Aberystwyth through distance learning while working part time as an Archive Assistant at Warwickshire County Record Office (2008).
