Chunyan Jia
Bio
Chunyan Jia is a PhD candidate in Literary Translation Studies supervised by Dr John T. Gilmore at the University of Warwick. Chunyan is also a Chinese-English translator and interpreter. She takes special interest in translation of Chinese and Japanese poetry. Her thesis is entitled “West-East Interpretation of Classical Chinese and Japanese Literature:
A Case Study of Burton Watson’s Translation.”
In my doctoral research, I attempt to explore thoroughly the translations of Burton Watson of both Chinese and Japanese literary works from an integrated perspective of West and East drawing on theories of translator’s subjectivity and also to examine the influence of parallel texts on the translation results of Burton Watson as polyglot translator. I am particularly interested in translators that work in classical oriental literatures including Arthur Waley, Ezra Pound and David Hawkes etc.
