GSD welcomes Dr Thi Bogossian as their new Teaching Fellow
The Global Sustainable Development (GSD) department are thrilled to announce the appointment of Dr Thi Bogossian as their new Teaching Fellow, effective from October 2025.
With academic roots spanning sociology, geography and education, Dr Bogossian’s academic background brings an interdisciplinary perspective that reflects the broad scope of our GSD programme. Their research, which explores the intersections of social inequalities within educational settings, is grounded in participatory and collaborative methodologies that aim to highlight the perspectives of marginalised groups.
They have conducted extensive research on the experiences of international students in higher education, focusing on belonging and inclusion issues. This also included work on international development programmes in gender and education, such as the Lifting Barriers Initiative. In addition to their research, Dr Bogossian also serves as co-editor of the Journal of Adult and Continuing Education and as outreach coordinator for Ethnic and Racial Studies.
Dr Bogossian’s appointment will strengthen the GSD department in several important ways. Their expertise in social inequality, migration and adult education complements our mission to examine how global processes shape the social pillar of sustainable development, and their focus on inclusive pedagogy and participatory learning will support the department’s commitment to socially aware, student-centred teaching.
Dr Bogossian will be contributing to some of our key undergraduate and postgraduate modules - GSD Skills, Social Principles of Global Sustainable Development, and Qualitative Approaches to Knowledge Generation - enabling students to engage critically with qualitative and socially conscious research methods. By combining rigorous research with inclusive, participatory teaching, their work promises to inspire GSD students to critically engage with global inequalities, prompting their journey towards developing practical solutions for positive social impact.
Dr Thi Bogossian will be based in R2.13 in the Ramphal Building, and we encourage all staff and students to welcome them to the school!
