Professor Chris Dolan joins the GSD Department!
We are delighted to have recently welcomed Chris Dolan to the School for Cross-faculty Studies as a Professor in Global Sustainable Development.
In his first few weeks of joining us, Chris represented the department and the University at the Wilton Park conference on 'Strengthening the international response to Conflict-Related Sexual Violence'. This conference forms part of several discussions being held in the run-up to the UK-hosted international Prevention of Sexual Violence in Conflict (PSVI) conference on 28-30 November 2022. Chris co-facilitated a discussion group at the conference titled 'Implementation and ownership: practical prospects and proposals'.
About Chris
Prior to joining Warwick, Chris’ career was largely spent in Sub-Saharan Africa, primarily in South Africa, Mozambique, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda. From 2006-2022 Chris was Director of the Refugee Law Project in Uganda, a position in which he developed work with refugees and internally displaced persons (IDPs) around five thematic areas: Access to Justice; Gender and Sexuality; Mental Health and Psychosocial Wellbeing; Conflict, Transitional Justice and Governance; and the use of Media for Social Change.
Chris' particular personal focus was on survivors of conflict-related sexual violence in the Great Lakes region. His research, training, and advocacy on inclusive and non-binary understandings of and approaches to gender-based violence and victimisation has put him at the forefront of creating awareness of conflict-related sexual violence against men and boys and its deep interconnections with such violence against women and girls. Chris is also exploring the relationship between pathways to disclosure of sexual violence, the resultant (un)reliability of evidence, and the political economy of sexual violence response and prevention.
