SCFS runs its Work Placement Fair for 2024

Crowd of students at Work Placement Fair in Ramphal

On Tuesday 29th October, the School for Cross-Faculty Studies (SCFS) ran its Work Placement Fair, offering Warwick students the opportunity to meet students who have undertaken a work placement and find out more about their experiences.

This annual event offers current students under the SCFS (whether they be studying GSD, Liberal Arts or Design Studies) the chance to find out more about the optional work placement they can choose to undertake as part of their studies at Warwick.

The fair was headed by students who had previously undertaken or were in the process of completing a short or yearlong work placement. Students were stationed at stands featuring posters that presented more information about their experiences, and attendees were encouraged to network and approach them with their questions about their work experience journey, the various roles and placements available, and the sectors and industries currently seeking their specific skills.

Some of the work placement information featured at the fair included employers such as:

  • BP
  • NetWatch
  • Transport London
  • Pernod Ricard
  • GSK
  • Marks & Spencers

Ellen, a Liberal Arts student who completed a yearlong work placement at NetWatch (an online and social mediaStudent presenting posters on their work placement experience intelligence agency), commented:

“I really enjoyed my work placement as it introduced me to the corporate environment, gave me valuable experience and allowed me to learn about a sector that I would not have otherwise been aware of. I was able to build strong connections at NetWatch during my placement, and I am currently working part-time for them as a NetWatch Police Liaison.”

Bodrun Nahar, the Employability Manager for SCFS, added:

"Students are often unsure and unaware of the different types of careers that are accessible to them. This event is a great opportunity to network and learn first-hand from their peers who have been on a similar journey. It also provides insight into the student labour market but more importantly, inspires and instils confidence in their own abilities to pursue a career of their choice.

For the students taking part in the event, it serves as a platform to reflect and celebrate their placement journey as well as share knowledge and best practice.”
