Warwick GSD Society
Hi all! This blog post is going to be about Warwick GSD Society, the academic society linked to the course, of which I am vice-president. As this is a rapidly growing society, it’s been a fascinating experience to be on the exec team - the group of people who run a society, for instance the president, who heads the society as a whole, the treasurer, who manages finances, or the social sec, who organises activities and socials for the members.
GSD Society’s main aim is to complement the department by offering educational activities, such as talks or study sessions, as well as social activities, such as pub crawls, movie screenings, international trips, and many more, in order to allow students to get to know their peers. You can take a look at our Facebook and Instagram pages to get an idea of what kind of socials we have offered in previous years.
Although our primary audience is GSD students, we also get a lot of involvement from students of other courses who have an interest in our activities. We try to integrate sustainability into everything we do: for instance, last year we visited Copenhagen and Malmö, two cities famed for their commitment to sustainability, and we’re planning a trip this year as well.
We pride ourselves in making sure all students are welcome, and in offering a balance of sober and drinking socials so that everyone may feel included. We made sure to include welfare officers in our exec so that anyone who may feel uncomfortable or have any kind of issue, whether it be related to the society or more generally, should have someone to speak to.
We are looking forward to welcoming all new students in September 2020!
