About the workshops

These events will facilitate dialogue around key issues related to food security. Participants will identify how their interests connect to the expertise of others across Warwick and how those interests can contribute to specific targets and indicators of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Many of the UN Sustainable Goals (SDGs) have targets that specifically relate to food. Beyond SDG 2 (Zero Hunger), many of the SDGs focuses on issues that affect the ability to buy, grow and supply food along with the health impacts for those who do not have enough. Amongst others, this has links to SDG1 (No Poverty), SDG3 (Good Health and Wellbeing), SDG 15 (Life on Land) and SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production).

An interactive tool will be available to all participants in advance of the meetings with a bank of useful information. Participants will be able to use the tool to share information and interact with the group.

Global challenges are complex and responses that include perspectives from a variety of disciplines are encouraged. We need researchers from disciplines across the academy to come along and share their views, perspective, approach and how their research area can contribute to hunger-related global challenges.

Key aims

  • To build a community of practice around key issues related to food.
  • To understand how research aligns with SDGs, targets and indicators, including how to present that in future research applications.
  • To consider how monitoring and evaluation techniques such as Theory of Change can be used to reinforce proposals and delivery more impactful research.
  • To create groups of researchers able to bid for large grants in GCRF, Newton Fund and other GSD related funding calls.

Who should attend?

Spaces are limited and priority will be given to the following groups.

Individual Researchers – if you are keen to build your networks at Warwick and share what you do, this is a great place to do it.

Research Teams – if you are already developing ideas and want to use this event to advance your proposal as a team, there will be breakout spaces in which you can do this and we encourage use of the event in this way.

Format

Instead of an intensive one-day event we have broken up the workshop into a series of bite sized chunks to help maintain your energy and to provide reflective time.

The sequence is sequential, and each session will build on the previous session so we are assuming you will join them all.

The events are designed as virtual participatory dialogue so most of the time will be in conversation with others and not in a standard webinar “listen” only mode. There will be short reflective pauses in the sessions but expected to be actively engaged throughout the planned timings
