About the event

This is the 2nd event in the IGSD global encounters series organized with the support of Warwick’s Global Research Priorities for Health and Connecting Cultures.

This half-day conference will explore the global consequences of Russia’s War in Ukraine, for the sustainability of the planet. The ongoing war unleashed by Russia on 24 February 2022 against Ukraine not only has devastating consequences for Ukraine, causing mass onslaught of civilians and total obliteration of the country’s infrastructure and resources. We are indeed witnessing what the Germans have called - a Zeitenwende – a major historical turning point that will have profound implications on everything - on a planetary scale - from trade, production, supply and wealth, to migration and and the ability of the global international society to meet urgent challenges such as climate change, poverty, inequality and global health. More specifically, this 2nd event will look at:

  • Mass displacement of Ukrainians: what are the consequences and how to deal with them?
  • Health: TB, COVID, and other health consequences – what are the pathways for handling the unfolding health crisis?
