Life Sciences Stream
In your first year, all students take the module LF130: Cellular and Molecular Biology. In your second and third year, you can specialise in the following areas: Ecological Sciences, Biomedical Sciences, Neuroscience and Biochemistry. Other options may also be available in discussion.
Why study the Life Sciences Stream?
The Liberal Arts and Science and Life Sciences stream offers you the opportunity to engage with key academic principles and techniques that enable the fantastic diversity of life on our planet and what it means for society. You can specialise in specific Life Sciences areas such as Ecological Sciences, Biomedical Science, Neuroscience and Biochemistry.
This interdisciplinary stream allows you to understand scientific questions concerning truth and knowledge, but also medicine, ecology, and biochemistry, and their ethical, social, cultural and environmental impact in the real world. This stream will provide you with the tools for critical thinking to connect the humanities’ big-picture questions with questions raised by scientific advances.

Please note
- In your first year, you have to take the first year module LF130: Cellular and Molecular Biology. This is a 30 CATS module.
- In your second and third year, you may specialise in one of the specific areas and take a minimum of 90 CATS in Life Science across both years.
- **Biochemistry is only available to students with A-level Chemistry.**
- NB. Module offerings may change annually.
