What is Liberal Arts and Sciences?

Our Liberal Arts and Sciences BASc (Hons.) degree offers a unique interdisciplinary approach, empowering you to think critically and creatively about topics ranging from complex local, regional and global challenges to creative ways of interpreting the world. Working in small groups and alongside expert tutors, you’ll explore issues and ideas from multiple perspectives, combining insights from the sciences, social sciences, and humanities. This course is designed for curious, passionate students who want the freedom to shape their degree around their interests and ambitions.

From day one, you’ll develop essential skills in research, analysis, and problem-solving through our Liberal Arts and Sciences modules. These modules encourage you to evaluate evidence, challenge assumptions, and build the intellectual toolkit needed for advanced interdisciplinary study. In your first year, you’ll choose a science or social science stream —from our Life Sciences and Business School partners — and spend at least one-third of your degree deepening your expertise in that area, supported by dedicated tutors.

You’ll also have the opportunity to extend your degree with a year abroad or a work placement, and enhance your employability through co-curricular certificates and short placements. Our graduates leave as innovative thinkers and adaptable leaders, ready to tackle the challenges of the past, present, and future.
