Summary Video
This video is a recorded interview between Dr Bo Kelestyn, the pedagogy leader, and Zoe Nobileau, one of the project officers. This conversation contains the a full description of the pedagogy, it's objectives and the potential benefits. Summary points of this conversation are inlcluded below:
Key points of the conversation:
- Making students aware of the diversity on campus.
- Fosters employability skills such as a global mindset.
- Teaches students to work with diversity throughout university.
- Made to link closely with the department's curriculum.
- The training entails a 1.5 hour workshop where students sit in a semi-circle and particate in two main exercises. The first exercise involves giving red and green cards to the students and they are asked to use these to respond to provocative statements or questions. The second exercise involves splitting students into groups with allocated cultural norms (unaware of other group’s culture). They then take on the cultural norms they've been allocated and interact with the other groups to see how easy it is to offend or misunderstand someone.
- One of the main benefits of this pedagogy is it reveals how cultural diversity does not simply exist between home and international students but is also present between home students themselves.
