Educational Leadership Development: Leading Anti-Racist Change in Higher Education (Fellow and Alumni only)
For a number of years, various reports on student attainment and experience in higher education (HE) have shown a clear and substantial difference in the attainment, progression and overall experience of students of colour compared to those who identify as White. Similarly, staff of colour experience race-based pay gaps, culturally incompetent institutional practices, broken pipelines and show little faith in institutional systems which are supposed to deal with them (EHRC, 2019). In this context, it matters that we demonstrate that we can effectively address racism within our institution, our disciplines and in the academy more widely. As a sector and as an individual institution, we do not yet have a very strong reputation for doing this.
In this interactive session delivered by the ‘Tackling Racial Inequality at Warwick’ (TRIW) team, we will consider what it means to make anti-racist change in HE and some of the ways you can lead change, how you might develop and empower your own and other people’s anti-racist leadership, and the importance of allyship and solidarity. This session will be valuable to anyone who wants to see that things go well around them in relation to tackling racial inequality whatever their formal role, job or life background. The structural challenges that are present throughout our University and sector require many leaders, at every level and from every community, to confront and change them.
This event is open to fellow and alumni only. If you would like to attend and haven't received a calendar invite please contact wihea@warwick.ac.uk
