Join us to celebrate the publication of this Cambridge Elements: Shakespeare and Pedagogy text authored by past IAS Early Career Fellow Dr Jennifer Kitchen. Drawing on her doctoral research with Coram Shakespeare School Foundation and many years' experience as a theatre education practitioner, Critical Pedagogy and Active Approaches Through Teaching Shakespeare explores the shared educational genesis between social justice and actice Shakespeare teaching.

This book is relevant to researchers interested in the intersection between critical pedagogy and creative arts education, but also teachers of theatre and literature at primary, secondary and tertiary levels as well as arts education practitioners. Jennifer Kitchen

Jennifer is a theatre education practitioner and researcher. She has published and presented widely on play, social justice and active Shakespeare pedagogy. She is the author of Critical Pedagogy and Active Approaches to Teaching Shakespeare (Cambridge University Press 2023) and co-author of Teaching and Learning Shakespeare Through Theatre-Based Practice (Arden 2024) Jennifer has also worked for many years as a theatre education practitioner, focusing on Shakespeare, storytelling, early years and work in heritage theatre spaces. She is currently based in Scotland, and teaches at The Universities of Glasgow and of Highlands and Islands. Jennifer was an IAS ECF 2019-2020 and currently holds a University of Warwick Honorary Research Fellowship in Education Studies.
