IATL provides funding and support for student-led research projects and, through the Education Fund jointly supported with WIHEA, for staff-led projects that support the university's Education and Student Experience Strategy.
Funding call information is below.
Please contact us if you have questions. For projects IATL has supported recently, visit our ProjectsLink opens in a new window page.
Student Led Projects
We are updating the Project Support scheme this year to focus solely on student-led research projects. The scheme will provide funding plus support for students to lead, produce and share their work. Further details will be available when we open this year's funding call in Term 2. If you would like to be contacted when the funding call opens, please email us at: IATL.ProjectSupport@warwick.ac.uk
Staff Led Projects - support provided through Education Fund
IATL and WIHEA have jointly launched the Education Fund for staff-led strategic projects that support the new Education and Student Experience Strategy. Please see the Education Fund website for guidance about the annual funding call. The Education Fund replaces both departments’ open funding schemes for staff projects.
Key Information for Student Applications (2024/25 info, to be updated)
Students at any level of study can apply for up to £1,500 for student-led research projects.
- Research - options for research projects include:
- proposals for student research projects, addressing any field or area;
- proposals for engagement activities regarding research that the student has already carried out;
- proposals that would support student researchers and advance the culture of student research.
Research proposals can address any field or area, including interdisciplinary topics. We encourage co-creation within student-led projects where possible but this is not required.
- Our co-creation video includes ideas relevant for some student projects
We support students being paid for their project work. See Funding and Budget Guidance for key information including sample budgets.
Key points:
- Projects must be student-led
- Projects must be completed within 3 months of the lead applicant’s graduation at the latest
- Work funded through Project Support cannot be used for or contribute to any form of assessment
- Students can submit one application per funding call
- If your research may or would require ethical approval, please contact us - the process is different to the ethics process for students on IATL modules
- All projects are expected to share their learning with the wider Warwick community
- Undergraduate students share their research through the International Conference of Undergraduate ResearchLink opens in a new window and/or ReinventionLink opens in a new window
Please ensure you review Approvals Required before you apply. Applications missing required approvals after the deadline will not be considered.
Timescales: After an application deadline, the Review Panel typically meets 2 weeks later, and we aim to notify applicants of outcomes within the 2 weeks after the Panel meets. If an application is approved, it can then take a further 2 weeks for funds to be available. Please allow for all this timing, and for ethical approval if required, when planning a project.
For the purposes of Project Support, PhD students are considered students (rather than staff), including if they are undertaking paid teaching work at the university, and so are eligible to apply for Project Support. PhD student applicants should review the Approvals requirements carefully before applying.
