WorldCUR-BCUR Finding your way

Travel Directions to the University of Warwick

This page summarises the travel directions to our University via different means of transport, including from main international hubs (Birmingham and London airports). It also explains how to navigate our campus once you're here!

If you are traveling through the main bus or train networks, you will first have to make your way to Coventry (the city our University is located in). From there, the easiest way to get to our University is via bus or a taxi (or equivalent). Other options include cycling, walking, and traveling to the University by car. A detailed overview of each of these options can be found below. Another simple way of exploring available options is through a journey planning app such as Google Maps.

The hours 8am – 10am and 4pm – 6pm are peak times for traffic on campus and the surrounding roads. We therefore recommend allowing plenty of time for your journey to campus if travelling between these times.

  • Central Campus Venues is situated on the Central Campus of the University, located on the outskirts of Coventry with good transport links.

  • If using a sat nav use post code CV4 7AL which will bring you to the edge of campus, then follow signs for Central Campus.

Getting to Coventry
By train/rail

Coventry Rail Station is the nearest main-line train station to the University, at approximately four miles from our campus. Delegates can reach Coventry Rail Station from different locations of the country, including London and Birmingham, which run regular and frequent services direct to Coventry. From Birmingham, delegates can easily connect to Coventry via Birmingham International (Airport) or via Birmingham New Street Rail Station. From London, trains to Coventry will most likely depart from London Euston station. Either place also features lines stopping at Canley Rail Station or Tile Hill Rail Station. These are nearer to the University, but less frequently served and connected (including by the local bus network).

London Northwestern Railway offer a regular rail service that passes between London and Birmingham (and vice-versa), with stops at Coventry, Canley and Tile Hill stations, as well as Birmingham International and Birmingham New Street.

For more information on train times and tickets, please visit the National Rail website.

Note: there are rail strikes planned for April 1st, so make sure to plan in advance!

A great platform to search, compare, and purchase both train and bus tickets is the Trainline website.

By Bus/Coach

Coventry Pool Meadow Bus Station is widely connected to different locations in the UK, including the main cities of Birmingham (via Birmingham International Airport and Birmingham Coach Station) and London (via London Victoria Coach Station).

Most of these direct connections operate through the main National Express network. From Birmingham, there are also 'local', multiple-stop bus services, such as the National Express X1 and the National Express X2. These are cheaper but take longer to arrive to Coventry.

For international visitors arriving at London Airports (Heathrow, Luton, Gatwick, Stansted), there are bus connections from these airports to Coventry (either direct or with one change at London Victoria Coach Station). Depending on the situation, this might be more convenient than using the rail system (which would imply traveling to London Euston station first, and then getting a train to Coventry).

Information on National Express bus times and tickets can be found on the National Express website. Delegates might also want to consider other coach providers such as Megabus.

From Coventry to the University of Warwick
By Bus

Local buses offer a frequent and convenient way of travelling to and from campus. There are regular bus services that connect Coventry City Centre, Coventry Rail Station, and Coventry Pool Meadow Bus Station to our University. Journeys take about 15-30 minutes.

The two main services that operate along these connections are the National Express 11 and the National Express 12X. Other bus services are available depending on where delegates are departing from.

The central bus stops at our University are located at our Bus Interchange.

For more information on bus timetables and tickets, please consult National Express Coventry. For other advice, call Traveline on 0871 2002233.

Note: National Express buses don't usually give change so make sure you have the correct money available before making your journey. You can find information about fares on the National Express Coventry website but it is best to check with the driver when you board the bus.

You can also try out the West Midlands Bus on Demand service. This is a new type of bus service that anyone travelling in the Coventry area can use. You can book journeys to/from different locations, including the University. It does not follow a specific route; instead, you book a journey and a bus will pick you up at a time you choose. The West Midlands On Demand uses accessible minibuses. They have space for a wheelchair and you can also bring assistance dogs on the bus (all other dogs are not allowed). Check out how to book a ride, where the service operates and the ticket prices.

By Bike

Cycling can be a cost-effective and environmentally-friendly way of travelling to and from the University. Many resources are available for cyclists travelling to campus:

On foot

If traveling by train, the closest rail station to walk to our University from is Canley Rail Station. From here, our University sits at a walking distance of approximately 1.3 miles.

This map shows the walking route from Canley rail station to the university campus:

By taxi (or equivalent car ride platform)

If ordering a taxi, Uber, or equivalent, please note that the University is not in the town of Warwick (which is about 8 miles away), and it is not the same as Coventry University (which is a different university, located in the centre of Coventry). This is important when telling taxi drivers where you want to be, or when inputting your destination on an online platform.

Check out our taxi information page for guidance about taxis.

The postcode for our central campus is CV4 7AL.

You can use that with route planning services like Google Maps, or with your satellite navigator to find your way to the University. As you get closer to the area, joining the A45 or A46, there will be signs marked "University of Warwick" to help you find us.

When you reach campus there are signs at all the main roundabouts to each of the major areas of campus: Central campus, Gibbet Hill campus, Westwood campus, Cryfield Village, Lakeside Village and the Science Park.
