Getting Connected: Applications of Attachment Theory in practice

In a one-day interactive conference, Geese Theatre and presenter/ psychotherapist Clark Baim worked with an audience of social work, counselling and psychotherapy students, plus practitioners from both disciplines. Geese Theatre, based in Birmingham, is known for work in the criminal justice system and in applied theatre in education.

The aim of the day was to promote an understanding of how attachment theory and systems theory can inform practice. By focusing on strengths-based/ relationship-based practice and by not labelling or pathologising people, practitioners and students were involved in small-group discussions throughout the day. The need for interdisciplinary working was emphasised. Theory was illustrated by vivid enactments by the Geese Theatre Company, who started the day with an interactive performance.
