Executive Summary

INNIT is a collaborative learning project between the Italian department at Warwick and the Translation and Interpreting department at the “Università degli Studi Internazionali di Roma” (UNINT) in Rome, IT.

The project consists in the creation of a website hosting a range of bilingual resources and activities in English and Italian, aiming to promote a linguistic and cultural exchange between ca. 150 students of English at UNINT and ca. 100 Warwick students of Italian (UG+PG). Thanks to the flexibility of an online platform, students at different levels will be able to contribute to and benefit from the project.

The project is student-led, with language tutors providing ongoing training and support, and aims to reverse the traditional learning environment through a ‘flipped classroom’ model where students teach and learn from each other. One staff member from Warwick (Dr Sinibaldi) and one staff member from UNINT (Dr Boyd) together with three selected students will be responsible for ensuring that the website is regularly updated. Warwick students taking LN209: Introduction to Language Teaching and LN306: Developing Teaching in Languages will also be invited to take an active role in designing online resources.

The main learning objectives of the project are:

  • To motivate and inspire students to take an active role in the language learning process
  • To promote collaborative learning and improve cultural and linguistic competencies in the two languages
  • To foster transferrable skills, such as IT and communication skills.
