Exploring the Aesthetics of Dance

The theory of an organic, ever-changing and temporal aesthetic is embodied in the practice of dance, a global phenomenon of movement which celebrates a variety of uses, from religious, to personal expression and social interaction, to cultural nationalism. Dance has been a vital component of the human aesthetic over the decades and has recently become much more prominent in the social scene, often used as a form of non-verbal communication, competition or ceremony, evolving into numerous styles, all of which are aimed at expressing different facets of society. As a visual art which is also closely linked to the aural, dance is often neglected in favour of the static visual arts, such as painting. In this project Jasmin Lau aims to refocus a study of the dance aesthetic and its relation to the current generation.
