Science of Music

Assessment

The assessment of The Science of Music module includes group projects. This is the largest part of the final mark. Group project assessment has three components – a group presentation at the last session, where they are marked by peers (and mark their peers). This is the favourite part for the students and staff – it is exciting to hear about the really impressive and exciting work that groups did throughout the module, and everyone is really diligent and thorough in giving feedback and agreeing on a fair mark according to the assignment’smarking criteria.

The second part of the mark comes from their project supervisor, so that students who contributed most are recognised.

The third part is a written project report. This is a space for students to practice academic writing in interdisciplinary context, to explore their chosen topic in the light of different disciplines and to be adventurous while building on heir strengths. From 2023 we introduce that the report should have an executive summary. This is the component that is showcased for each student who is happy to share their work beyond their class. The executive summary is useful for both the readers and the writer. It helps focus what they want to convey and is a valuable transferable skill.
