Becky worked in various roles in IATL from December 2013; when she left in August 2017, to take up the role of Departmental Administrator (Research, Finance and Operations) in Sociology, she was working as IATL's Academic Projects Manager, and was also Academic Manager for Global Shakespeare (Department of English and Comparative Literary Studies). Becky is an Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and a Fellow of the Warwick International Higher Education Academy.

Academic Project Manager

Becky worked on various academic projects, including:

• Pedagogic research, such as Playfulness in Higher Education and The Dark Would (read more about Becky's experience of working across institutional boundaries as an administrator involved in academic projects)
• A new MSc in Humanitarian Engineering.
• Leading the Warwick BLASTER (The Best in Liberal Arts and Sciences Teaching Expanded and Reinforced) research team.
• 'Developing a student-driven educational model between, beyond and across disciplines'. The project is led by Dr Georgia Kremmyda (part of the Humanitarian Engineering team) and is funded by HEFCE. Becky's role on this project consisted of research and project management.
• 'Students as leaders: A Campus of Ideas', in which a student research team are exploring methodologies for student-led projects.

Academic Manager, Global Shakespeare

Becky led on all administrative aspects for Global Shakespeare's Master's and undergraduate programmes. All queries regarding the MA course including admissions, events, website, and requests for further information were directed to her.

Previous roles

Previously a Postgraduate Recruitment Officer in the Student Admissions and Recruitment Office, and Programme Manager for University Summer Schools, Becky has worked at the University since 2012. Before that, Becky was a Teaching Fellow at the University of Sheffield, where she taught Old English and carried out research on Anglo-Saxon magic and medicine.

Becky is passionate about teaching and learning, and has been recognised by an award of Associate Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy, and a nomination for a Warwick Award in Teaching Excellence. Inspired and encouraged by Celia Whitchurch’s work on ‘third-space professionals’,¹ Becky seeks out opportunities for teaching and learning innovation that challenge and respond to assumed hierarchies and boundaries by bringing together administrative and academic staff in collaborative teams. For example, she worked with IATL colleagues Amy Clarke, Phil Gaydon, and Naomi de la Tour on the transdisciplinary teaching and learning project, The Dark Would, and received funding to develop a programme which recognised, developed and rewarded the skills of administrative staff who are involved in teaching and learning.

She also enjoys working with students and people outside the academy; in 2012 she founded the Sheffield Anglo-Saxon and Medieval Society, which brings together academics, independent scholars and members of the public, and is also a Public Engagement Ambassador for the National Centre for Coordinating Public Engagement.
