In Memoriam: Professor J B Forsyth
We are saddened to learn of the death of Professor J B Forsyth at the age of 91. Bruce Forsyth was a member of our Project Management Committee in the early years of the construction and operation of XMaS, indeed he was responsible for us adopting "XMaS" as the name of the facility. Bruce was trained in the Crystallographic section of the Cavendish Laboratory and went on to become an internationally prominent neutron scatterer and x-ray diffractionist. His knowledge and expertise helped us to build XMaS the right way for our users over its many years of successful operation. He will be sadly missed. |
Seeing is believing at the X-ray Materials Scattering facility - UKRI article
From tooth fillings to the Mary Rose, the UK’s X-ray Materials Scattering (XMaS) user facility allows scientists to explore the secrets of materials.
25 years of X-ray Scattering at XMaS
This year marks the 25th anniversary of the operation of the UK’s XMaS (X-ray Materials Science) user facility at the European Synchrotron Research Facility (ESRF) in Grenoble. It has been directed for all that time from University of Warwick and Liverpool Physics Departments and has provided hundreds of UK scientists (and many from further afield) with the opportunity to do leading research in a truly world-leading international centre.
