Hear from our apprentices

"I started my degree apprenticeship straight after completing A-level, after applying for both apprenticeship and full-time courses in Civil Engineering. I chose to follow the degree apprenticeship pathway as I was keen to start practically implementing the theory that I learn at University on real life projects. Studying in this way has helped me to develop a clearer understanding of the university theory, as well as giving me the opportunity to learn from the experience of my colleagues.

I work for Arup, London within their Structural Engineering team and have had the opportunity to work on a range of buildings projects. I have gained experience in both drawing and 3D modelling work, as well as the application of structural design and analysis. A highlight of my Apprenticeship so far has been seeing the structural completion of a project that I worked on, visiting a building that I had modelled in 3D brought to life on site.

I have also been able to spend time throughout my Apprenticeship encouraging other young people to consider a career in engineering. This has included co-leading the Arup Buildings London Work Experience programme, participating in a range of STEM outreach activities and becoming a member of the Women's Engineering Society Apprentice Board.

I'm really looking forward to continuing to develop my knowledge and skills following from my apprenticeship and working towards becoming a Chartered Engineer, whist continuing to encourage others in their early careers to consider an Apprenticeship pathway."
