Warwick Submarine team wins ‘Award for Innovation’ in the European International Submarine Races (eISR) 2024
The Warwick Submarine team competed in the European International Submarine Races (eISR 2024) at Gosport, UK, 24 June – 5 July 2024 with Godiva V, a distinctly shaped and equipped with a tilting propeller pedal-powered submarine, crafted by 4th year MEng SoE students within a WMG-based es410 project co-supervised by Dr Petr Denissenko and instructed by Dr Nigel Denton (WMG).
As the only UK team, Warwick achieved an excellent result, returning from the eISR 2024 with one of the major prizes winning this year the ‘Award for Innovation’ – presented to the team, which in the judges’ opinion, has pushed the engineering innovation envelope the furthest.
Competing against ten submarines from the US, Canada, Singapore, Taiwan and Germany, and despite breaking off both propeller blades on the first run, Warwick completed three finishes and placed fourth overall for speed, the best performance at the European competition to-date at Gosport.
At the end of the event, the organisers eagerly borrowed Godiva V for an outreach event – Qinetiq public Open Day at HMS Collingwood.
