Reimagining a STEM Research Culture

Professor Georgia Kremmyda has been successful in obtaining a Warwick Enhancing Research Culture grant for the project "Reimagining a STEM Research Culture: Lessons Learnt from 20 years of Evolution for Inclusive Representation in Science and Engineering". This project embraces the experiences and expertise of members in the International Network of Women Engineers and Scientists (INWES), with members in over 60 countries.

Women, disabled people and those from ethnic-minorities or socially-disadvantaged groups are consistently underrepresented, particularly at senior levels, in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). Although diversity and inclusion issues also persist in other sectors, this project focuses on improving access to and participation in STEM research and innovation due to the existence of STEM-specific barriers and challenges, and due to the significant benefits that improving diversity in STEM would bring for individuals and for the wider UK society.

Ten virtual workshops are planned as part of the delivery, along with other supplementary events, leading to a desk study aiming to create a conceptual framework for introducing an inclusive culture.

As PI of this exciting project, Prof. Kremmyda will be building on a proven track record in diversity, equality and inclusion activities, with outcomes expected to significantly improve policies and strategies at research institutions.
