Trace Metals in Medicine Research Group
The following will probably need to turn into sub-pages; it would be nice to have forthcoming events both internally and externally prominent in the column on the right hand side; this might include the TMM group meeting dates and a link to resources associated with each meeting, e.g. research papers, presentations.

Funding Opportunities
-
Discipline Hopping for Researchers
Funding is available to support current researchers (PhD or postdoc) within the Material Science remit to spend a short period of time (between 1 week and 1 month) outside their current discipline with a named partner research group. In particular, we welcome applications which cross the physical and engineering sciences – medical research areas. The goal of this funding is to provide researchers with an opportunity to spend time in a different research or user environment in order to better understand the need for and potential of research materials to have an impact in addressing clinically relevant challenges. Requests can be made for the buy-out of researcher time to undertake this activity, as well as modest consumable requests and any associated travel or additional accommodation costs. Applications should be made using the online form; applications will be considered throughout the year.
-
Development Support for Postdoctoral Researchers
Funding is available to support current postdoctoral researchers within the Material Science remit to support their own personal development activities. We welcome applications which are focussed on supporting the career and transferrable skills development of early career researchers. Such activities could include the researcher participating or organising:
- training sessions
- research seminars
- researcher networks
- learning new techniques and tools
- collaborative visits
- organised events
There is no closing date and requests will be considered throughout the year with decisions expected within 2 weeks. It expected that funding requests are modest and will normally not exceed £300. Applications should be made using the online form.
Publications
(to feature papers from the group - this can link to a higher-level part of my website where these are already listed if appropriate, as I have done for now)
Presentations

Forthcoming Conferences
(to include titles of conferences of interest, links to the conference page, plus information about abstract deadlines and costs of attending plus any bursary available from the conference itself and a pointer to relevant funding opportunities)
- SEVENTH CONGRESS OF THE INTERNATIONAL BIOIRON SOCIETY
Biennial World Meeting (BioIron 2017)
May 7 – 11, 2017
UCLA Meyer & Renee Luskin Conference Center
Los Angeles, California, USA
Events at Warwick
e.g. postgraduate symposia, anything that falls outside of the regular seminars listing
- OUTREACH - Saturday 11th March Science Week - School of Engineering Our group is represented on two stands, one led by Jake Brooks on Parkinson's disease, and the other representing Women in Engineering which is led by our WiE Scholars. Please let Joanna know if you have time to volunteer on either of these stands - we need to know very soon to complete the paperwork for Christopher James who is coordinating the event.
External Events
e.g. postgraduate symposia, anything that falls outside of the regular seminars listing, outreach events etc.
- OUTREACH - 20th-24th March Science event at Whitnash Primary School, Leamington Spa: if you have any ideas about how you could support their science week to engage the primary school children with events, please contact Dr Claire Lucas (Systems stream, Engineering) on c.lucas@warwick.ac.uk
Training Opportunities
Both within Warwick and externally, e.g. the neuroimaging course in London being attended by our first year PhD students this year
- 17th Annual Course: Neuroradiology & Functional Neuroanatomy: 27-30th March 2017 Institute of Neurology, UCL, London. This four day course, organised by Prof Thomas Naidich (Mount Sinai New York), Prof Christopher Yeo (University College of London) and Prof Tarek Yousry (UCL Institute of Neurology& National Hospital for Neurology & Neurosurgery) will consist of Lectures, Anatomy and PACS Workshops.
