Biography

I completed my Bachelor's in Mechanical Engineering at Universitas Brawijaya in Indonesia from 1990 to 1996.

After completing my degree, I joined ISUZU Astra Motor Indonesia, serving in their Product Development Department from 1996 to 2002. I worked as a product planner and product engineer, developing both passenger and commercial vehicles.

Subsequently, I advanced my career in automotive tool manufacturing, becoming the Tool Design Section Head at FUJI Technica Indonesia from 2002 to 2008. I led a design team collaborating with various international brands and markets, including Japanese brands such as Toyota, Nissan, Honda, Suzuki, Daihatsu, American brand Ford, and Chinese brand Geely.

Between 2003 and 2004, I enhanced my automotive tool design and manufacturing skills at FUJI Technica & Miyazu Inc. in Mishima, Japan. This opportunity was funded by the Association for Overseas Technical Scholarship and Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry.

From 2008 to 2009, I was involved in research with the Lancaster Product Development Unit, Engineering Department, at Lancaster University. During this time, I focused on design for additive manufacturing/3D printing as part of the Rapid Manufacturing North West project. This project was supported by the European Union and the Higher Education Innovation Fund, culminating in my earning an MSc in Engineering through Research.

In 2009, I returned to Indonesia to teach in the Mechanical Engineering Department at Politeknik Negeri Jakarta and also taught part-time at Politeknik Manufaktur Astra.

In 2010, I was awarded a fully-funded research studentship at the Loughborough Design School for my PhD research, which I completed in July 2016. My research focused on developing CAD tools and methodologies that are accessible to the general public, especially for those without CAD or engineering skills, to facilitate 3D printing.

During my PhD studies, from 2014 to 2015, I was a CAD tutor at Nottingham Trent University. Also, in 2014, I took on the role of Researcher at the University of Derby's Institute for Innovation in Sustainable Engineering. My primary responsibility was assisting small and medium-sized enterprises in Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire with developing new products and processes.

Between 2017 and 2021, I worked at the University of Birmingham's High Temperature Research Centre as a Post Doctoral Research Fellow. Here, I developed automated manufacturing for the aerospace industry in a project funded by Rolls-Royce and the Higher Education Funding Council for England.

Lastly, from 2021 to 2023, I taught CAD and Solid Mechanics in Aerospace Engineering at Coventry University's School of Future Transport.

Since January 2023, I have taught Engineering Design to first-year engineering students at the University of Warwick's School of Engineering. My teaching focuses on the engineering design process, design thinking, and practical applications of CAD.
