Student Testimonial
Hear from Dr Mohd Noorul Ikhsan Mohamed
A bit about me:
- I have obtained both my first and master degrees in Malaysia. Working at Malaysian Nuclear Agency as a research officer since 2002 before further my study at Warwick University. My field of interest is Non-destructive testing, particularly ultrasonic and radiography techniques.
Why I chose Warwick for my doctorate:
- I have received several offers from other universities throughout the UK, I have made the decision to be at Warwick based on four factors:
- My supervisor Professor David Hutchins
- Prestigious of the University of Warwick
- Recommendations from friends who used to be Warwick University student
- The location of University of Warwick in the Midlands that make it easier for me to explore UK during my stay
What I liked best about my time at Warwick:
- I feel very fortunate to have prof Dave Hutchins as my supervisor because under his dynamic man management and brilliant guidance I have completed my studies within the time frame. Much of what I learned from him is not just about the subject matter, but also about the social life that has brought me a lot. I think this is the key to my PhD journey became a wonderful and fun experience. I was lucky to be surrounded by very helpful and supportive people at the School of Engineering. Miss them all!!
After completing my doctorate:
- As my study was fully sponsored by the Government of Malaysia, it has become my responsibility to repay back the favour by giving my service to the country. I am now resuming the job at the Malaysian Nuclear Agency as a senior research officer.
If I could time travel, what advice would I give my younger self, when starting a PhD at Warwick?
- Enjoy the PhD journey while it last because we are going to miss it! But there are things to be aware of to ensure that we get a smooth sailing time:
- Be focused on your study
- Be friendly with everyone around
- See your supervisor as frequently as possible.
If you were to describe your time at Warwick in just 3 words, what would they be?
- LIFE CHANGING EXPERIENCE
