FTP Information for Internet Explorer

You can set up Internet Explorer so that it can browse FTP directories, just as if they were folders in Windows Explorer:

  1. Click Tools | Internet Options.
  2. Click the Advanced tab.
  3. Under Browsing, check the box labelled Enable Folder View For FTP Sites.
Next, if you're on a computer that's behind a firewall (most are), you'll need to set up IE to use passive FTP (it probably is by default):
  1. Click Tools | Internet Options.
  2. Click the Advanced tab.
  3. Under Browsing, check the box labelled Use Passive FTP.

You should access the isel1 server with the following URL format: ftp://username@isel1.warwick.ac.uk/array1

This should result in the user being prompted for a password. Once the password is supplied, a directory comes up, and the user can copy and paste (write access required) files to and from the FTP window.

If you have it available, the Firefox browser handles FTP directories in a more user friendly manner than Internet Explorer, and the settings described above are not required.
