Bean seed fly trials

Contact: Rosemary Collier

The larvae of the bean seed fly are a very damaging pest of several crops – particularly legumes and alliums.

We have undertaken two trials (green beans and leeks) to test new treatments to control bean seed fly. This is funded by AHDB. The infestation of bean seed fly was so severe that it virtually wiped the crops out and none of the treatments were effective. Only the few surviving plants of the leek trial now remain.
