IPM strategy for bean seed fly
Contact: Becca McGowan
The larvae of the bean seed fly feed on germinating seeds and emerging plants.
Most crop damage is reported in beans, peas and onions in the UK. Currently, there are no effective insecticide treatments approved to control the bean seed fly. An alternative strategy is required to reduce the damage caused by larval feeding, opposed to the sole use of insecticides.
My PhD project aims to contribute towards an Integrated Pest Management (IPM) strategy to reduce crop damage and economic losses caused by the bean seed fly (Delia platura & Delia florilega).
