Webinar - Understanding how climate change will affect plant pests and diseases

Monday, 23rd February, 4pm to 5pm (UK time) - in Microsoft Teams.

Recent changes in the UK’s climate are reshaping the behaviour, movement and impact of agricultural and woodland pests and diseases. Rising temperatures, shifting rainfall patterns and more frequent extreme events are influencing when pests and pathogens emerge, how fast they develop, how far they spread and the degree of pressure they place on their hosts.

Dr Catherine Bradshaw will outline the work she and colleagues at the Met Office have been undertaking to understand how climate change is altering pest risks, drawing on modelling, analysis of climate projections and assessments of future pest pressures. She will also introduce how long‑range climate forecasting could help anticipate high‑risk periods, improve preparedness and support decision‑making across agriculture and plant health sectors.
