Welcome Message

It is a pleasure to welcome you into MASDOC, the Warwick Mathematics and Statistics Centre for Doctoral Training. The Warwick Departments of Mathematics and Statistics have created a new and exciting opportunity for you. The future success of MASDOC much depends on you through your commitment, efforts, engagement and new ideas.

On our web pages we have collected together key information and guidance. As well as providing key administrative and course information these highlight some important responsibilities for you and I ask you to note them carefully. For any queries or issues please do not hesitate to consult our administrator Mrs Chris Richley or our Director of Studies Andreas Dedner or myself the MASDOC Director.

We all look forward to getting to know you and wish you every success with your studies and research at Warwick.

BEFORE YOU ARRIVE

Before you arrive at Warwick, there are a number of things to do. The most important of these is enrolment, but once you have enrolled, you can start ticking things off your induction checklist!

Enrol - details on how to enrol can be found by clicking here. For those students who are supported by a studentship it is also possible to enter your bank details once you have completed enrolment.

We are currently collating pre-course reading but suggestions for the individual modules, can be found here.

 

MASDOC Induction will start on Thursday 27 September 2018.  

For those who are not familiar with the Zeeman Building you may find the building plan useful.

MASDOC operates a system of student mentors where new students are paired with PhD student to help transition into the department. The student mentors will be able to answer any informal questions not covered by MASDOC documentation. See the mentor list here.


INDUCTION PROGRAMME

THURSDAY 27 September 2018 commencing

1.00 - 2.00 Informal lunch with previous MSc students - Supervision area outside D2.08

Laptop sessions - attend only one

Laptops will be handed out at these sessions.

Individual meetings jointly with Course Director and Director of Studies - timetable is available here.

2.00 - 3.00 pm One hour laptop session in Room B1.12, First Floor, Mathematics Institute.

3.00- 4.00 pm One hour laptop session in Room B1.12, First Floor, Mathematics Institute.

5.30 pm Dinner in Mathematics Common Room, First Floor, Mathematics Institute

FRIDAY 28 September 10.00 onwards

10.00-11.00 am Introduction to Research Study Groups - Room B1.01, First Floor, Mathematics Institute

11.15 am - 3.30 pm Departmental Registration and introduction to postgraduate study - sandwich lunch provided

3.30 pm IT Services introduction (Room A0.02) - attendance at either this session or other session on Thursday 6 October compulsory.

SATURDAY 29 September (Postponed, please check back here for updates)

11.00 am Meet in Mathematics Institute Common Room for walk to Kenilworth, followed by a meal at the Saxon Mill, Kenilworth.

MONDAY 1 October

11.00 am Tea in C0.08, Zeeman Building - an opportunity to meet with Statistics Department staff and postgraduate students.

11.00-12.00 & 2.00-3.30 Collection of desk keys from B0.08 , a £10 refundable deposit required for the desk key in a named envelope please

TUESDAY 2 October

12.30 pm Lunch with other new postgraduate students in Mathematics (Common Room, first floor)

13.30 pm Food Hygiene session (Room D1.07. Attendance compulsory). You will need to bring along your laptop with either Google Chrome or Internet Explorer installed.

THURSDAY 5 October

12.30 pm IT Services introduction (Room A0.02) Attendance at this session or session offered on Friday 28 September compulsory.

Wednesday 11 October

1 pm Departmental photo (staff and postgraduate students) outside the main entrance.
