Maths CDT Family / Buddy Scheme
Context
The scheme serves to facilitate informal contact between incoming and present PGR students. In such settings, practical questions can be addressed for a good start at Warwick. In particular, they also opportunities to discuss any problems and issues related to Warwick's dignity principles.Link opens in a new window
Aims and Objectives
The general aim is to make students more confident to raise any issues with the university if required and appropriate, and also to make them more knowledgeable about potential means to do so.
Each student gets a family assigned. Within this family, there might also be a pairing with a specific buddy. With the latter we would like to ensure that students from under-represented communities have a corresponding partner. Please note that forming such pairings requires that sufficient information has been disclosed and that there is a suitable member of the same community among the present PGR students.
Buddying is a voluntary, informal role provided by a peer student and does not require any training. They can provide support and informal advice but are no mentors nor any service providers.
Financial Support
Meeting within families or one-on-one with buddies are supported with food vouchers. Please contact the PGR team to get some but note that they might not be able to produce them on the spot and need some time.
In 2024, we can provide £8 per person and meeting (up to four during the year).
The following website provides information on how the vouchers work and where they can be used:
