Disabled student champions
Every academic department at Warwick has at least one Disabled Student Champion. These are members of academic staff who, as named contacts for disabled students, are helping to build inclusive learning environments, improving communication between departments and central services (such as Disability Services), and ensuring students' needs are met consistently across the University.
Disabled Student Champions are advocates for disabled students. They work closely with personal tutors, the Senior Tutor, Directors of Study, professional services colleagues and others to support disabled students at all stages of their academic journey.
In Maths, the Disabled Student Champion is Richard Sharp, who can be contacted on R.J.Sharp@warwick.ac.ukLink opens in a new window.
Student Support and Progression Officer
In our Taught Programmes Office, you can access a Student Support and Progression Officer (SSPO), who is there is to help deal with concerns and complaints about student wellbeing, as well as mitigating circumstances and student monitoring points.
The Maths SSPO is Lauren Parker, who can be contacted on Lauren.M.Parker@warwick.ac.uk or by dropping into the Taught Programmes Office, which is in B0.01.
Personal tutors
Another natural point of contact for support within the department could be your personal tutor. There is more information about personal tutors and their role elsewhere in this handbook.
For disabled students, it is worth noting that personal tutors are not specifically trained for disability or neurodivergence but can signpost you to other support available at the University and should still do what they can to support you during your time at Warwick.
If you have concerns either about your personal tutor or about support in your lectures, supervisions or support classes then don’t suffer in silence! You can speak to the Senior Tutor, the Disabled Student Champion, or visit the Taught Programme Office in B0.01.
