George Bailey
About Me
I am an MSc Mathematics student here at the University of Warwick, having obtained a First Class BSc (Hons) with Distinction from the University of York in 2026. During my undergraduate studies, I focused primarily on pure and applied mathematics, but have developed an interest in probability theory and stochastic processes since starting my studies at Warwick. Alongside my studies, I am developing my programming and data anlysis skills using Python.
Academic Interests
My current academic interests lie mainly in the areas of stochastic analysis and probability theory. I am particularly interested in Brownian motion and Itô's calculus. I also maintain my interest in applied mathematics from my undergraduate studies, particularly in general relativity.
Current Study
MSc Mathematics, University of Warwick
Current modules include:
- General Relativity
- Stochastic Analysis
- Introduction to Mathematical Finance
In the spring term, I will be taking Brownian Motion, Calculus of Variations, and Bayesian Forecasting and Intervention with Advanced Topics.
Projects and Experience
Academic Projects
- In my first year at the University of York, I participated in a group project exploring various areas of pure mathematics. In particular, I investigated aspects of fractal geometry, including the concept of the Hausdorff dimension.
- My final year undergraduate dissertation was on the topic of applied group theory. Specifically, I looked at how groups and their representations arise naturally in the study of quantum mechanics, culminating in the establishment of selection rules for a free electron in a crystal lattice, when interacting with an incident plane electromagnetic wave.
