Workshop on Gradient Models and Elasticity

Recently there was a renewed interest in statistical mechanics of gradient models. In particular, systems with non-convex potentials at non-zero temperature are being investigated by several groups. Focus is on convexity properties of the free energy (energy/entropy competition), (non)uniqueness of Gibbs states, &c. The aim of the workshop is to bring together researchers from probability and analysis to discuss the issues arising in this effort as well as to address some fundamental questions about the connection with microscopic models and potential applications in material science.
