EPSRC Symposium Workshop - Large Scale Behaviour of Random Spatial Models
Monday 28 May - Friday 1 June 2012
Organisers: Stefan Adams (Warwick), Roman Kotecky (Warwick), Stefan Grosskinsky (Warwick)
The workshop will focus on a recently emerging branch of probability theory dealing with scaling limits of random fields. It covers the area from gradient random fields as used for random interfaces and elasticity models, up to hydrodynamic limits of interacting particle systems. A common feature of these probabilistic models is the role of the variational characterisation of their asymptotic behaviour. Aspects of particular interest are a priori strong correlations (zero mass in the case of gradient fields), the role of conservation laws, as well as phase transitions and critical fluctuations. A range of diverse systems is based on gradient random fields. In particular, random interfaces and their hydrodynamic limit and microscopic theory of non-linear elasticity. Interacting stochastic particle systems constitute a classical field with interesting recent developments in the description of their large scale dynamic behaviour. Of particular concern are fluctuations in the presence of critical phenomena, where new potential theoretic methods can be used to characterize metastable states and their dynamics.
Partially support by DFG-Forschergruppe 718 - 'Analysis and Stochastics in Complex Physical Systems'.

Some practical details
Here is advice on how to get to Warwick University from the main UK airports.
The nearest railway station to the University is Coventry Railway Station, approximately 2.5 miles away.
Here is a map of the Warwick campus (where the Mathematics Department is in the Zeeman Building, numbered 37).
Here is some information on local buses (U1 and U2 connect Coventry-University-Leamington Spa; 12 connects Coventry-University-Kenilworth-Leamington Spa). Kenilworth is 4 miles from the University. Leamington Spa is 8 miles from the University, and has its own railway station.
The cost of parking on Campus is £3 per day.
Lectures will be in room MS.01 in the Zeeman Building (which is suitable for blackboard, OHP or computer presentations).
