Young Researchers in Mathematics 2014

  • When is YRM happening?
Between the 30th of June (Monday) to the 3rd of July (Thursday) 2014. A schedule can be found here.
  • Where will it be happening?
In the wonderful Zeeman building, at the University of Warwick. More precise details can be found here.
  • Who can participates?
As the conference title suggests any young researcher in mathematics.
    • Yes. But what does that mean?
It is mainly aimed at Phd students in Mathematics, whatever branch they are in. But we also welcome keen Master students who are about to start a Phd, and Postdocs who are fresh in the world of academics.
  • I'm not based in the UK, can I still attend?
Sure! YRM 2014 is open to all who think they will benifit from it, whether they study in the UK or abroad.
  • How long should my talk be?
Contributed talks will be 20 minutes long, plus 5 minutes for questions and answers. Plenary and Keynote talks will be 1 hour long including time for questions and answers.
  • What facilities are available in the lecture rooms?
All of our rooms have black boards, a computer and a overhead projector. Slides can be shown either using a USB stick and the available computer, or plugging in your laptop in the projector (note that for some room Mac users might need to bring their own cable). You can find here some photos and more information of the rooms.
  • How can I connect to the internet?
The whole of Zeeman building has Eduroam available. So the easiest way, is to set up Eduroam at your university before you leave to come here.
  • Will I be able to observe Ramadan during YRM 2014?
Yes you can! If you stay with the accommodation, there will be the option for a pre-dawn breakfast (let us know in the accommodation form). Furthermore the Islamic Society will be providing late dinner, as well as leading prayers in the prayer hall.
  • Will you be providing Tea and Coffee?
Yes, while not on the schedule yet, we feel it is important for delegates to have a chance to talk to each other and spend more time asking speakers questions. To this end we plan to have two tea and coffee breaks on Tuesday and Wednesday and one tea and coffee break on Monday and Thursday.
  • What about lunches and dinners?
As Warwick is a campus university, finding places to eat is rather difficult. So we have decided to provide a buffet lunch on all four days. Furthermore, on the Monday night, the Heilbronn Institute is providing a Hot Buffet after a wine reception. While on Tuesday we have a barbeque and on Wednesday our Conference Dinner.
  • Where can I park my car?
You can park on campus for free in car parks 7, 8, 8a and 15. On entering the car park, take the token from the machine, which can then be validates at Conference Reception (please note that in car parks 8 and 8a there is no token machine, but you are permitted to park in this car park without needing to pay and display)
  • I want to advertise YRM 2014 to my department, is there anything I can do?
Contact us to let us know that you are interested in becoming a representative of YRM 2014. We will then send you some ideas of what you can do, or put you in contact with the rep if your uni already has one. Furthermore, you can always print posters to put up in you department.
  • I just love YRM 2014, can I have a poster to put in my room?
Absolutely! Posters can be found here.
  • My question is not in the FAQ.
    That is not a question.
    • But what should I do?
Contact us, contact information can be found here. We will do everything we can to answer your query.
  • Why \mathbb{R}^{m}?
    Because it's real.
