Statistics, hyperbolicity and related problems (SHARP)

23-27 March 2026, The University of Warwick

This conference revolves around the success and on-going potential of how concepts in both hyperbolic dynamics and thermodynamic formalism manifest in other problems. Known applications are diverse: from classical counting geodesics to more modern counting problems in spaces retaining some hyperbolicity; characterisation of Hausdorff dimension of fractal sets; spectrum and limit laws for group extensions. This conference is also an opportunity to celebrate the 60th birthday of Professor Richard Sharp, who has made many contributions to this field!

The conference spans Monday afternoon to Friday morning, with invited talks, contributed talks, and ample time for networking, discussion, nourishment, and rest! There will be a conference dinner on Wednesday evening.

Confirmed speakers include

B. Schapira, M. Pollicott, F. Ledrappier, W. Bahsoun, I. Gekhtman, M. Stadlbauer, S. Ghazouani, S. Baker, N. Kao, A. Gogolev, N. Jurga, K. Butt, T. Kucherenko, Giulio Tiozzo, Zemer Kosloff

Organising committee:

  • Stephen Cantrell (St Andrews, )
  • Rhiannon Dougall (Durham, )
  • Solly Coles (Tufts, )

Getting to Warwick University

Warwick University is located approximately 3 miles from Coventry (and not very close to Warwick, the town). From Coventry railway station it is straightforward to reach the university by bus, uber or taxi.

The nearest airport is Birmingham Airport (BHX) which approximately 20 miles away. There is a direct train from the station at Birmingham Airport (called Birmingham International) to Coventry which takes between 10 and 25 minutes. It is likely easier to find a flight to one of the London airports. Once in London you can get a bus (by National Express for example) to Coventry (Pool Meadow coach station) which typically takes a couple of hours. Alternatively, one can take the London Underground to Euston and then take a train to Coventry (which takes between 1 and 2 hours).
