Behavioural Humanities: Professor Daniel Read "The Behavioural Science of Middlemarch"
Facilitated by Professor Thomas Hills.
Coventry native George Eliot (Mary Ann Evans) wrote one of the greatest novels in English: Middlemarch: A study of provincial life. In this talk, Professor Daniel Read will discuss Middlemarch in the light of modern behavioural science by examining its insights into human behaviour. I will discuss the themes of behavioural ethics, strategic interaction, and impatience and also deliberate on the broader question of how the study of literature can inform thinking about psychology and society.
