Involving Everyone
Our undergraduates...
Involving our community is a crucial part of our Athena Swan work. We work closely with our staff and students to make sure we're listening to their concerns and ideas in order to make the Psychology department an even better place to work and study.
Events
Organise events promoting our Athena SWAN actions and promote University initiatives.
Surveys
We are creating a series of Athena Swan surveys to encourage colleagues to share their thoughts about their experiences of working here, including their work-life balance, recognition, challenges and ideas for improvement. The latest survey will be released in March 2020 and will help to shape our future and our bid for the Athens Silver Award. From here on in we intend to make these surveys an annual event.
The University also runs a biennial pulse survey for staff. We receive detailed information about the responses from colleagues within Psychology and use this feedback to plan our Athena Swan actions as well.
Focus groups
We are setting up focus groups with members of our community in particular groups. We are intending to ask the focus groups to look at issues such as career progress and development opportunities for Professional and Support Services staff, and flexible working. All will be invited and encouraged to be part of the focus groups. The focus groups will be run by someone external to the department so that no one feels inhibited about speaking up.
Encouraging involvement
For those who want to be involved / have something to contribute but don't wish to be identified or be part of the focus groups (we recognise that these forums aren't for everyone), we have set up an anonymous form HERE (an online suggestion box) where you may leave your suggestions or ideas for promoting equality & diversity.
