Reference Request

This form can be used to request a reference from a nominated member of staff in the Department of Statistics, if you do not currently have a personal contact with an academic who can write you a reference.

Please take the time to read all the information on this page.

Reference Writers

  • Your first reference should be your personal tutor.
  • Your second reference can be another academic member of staff you have a personal contact with, such as a previous personal tutor. You will need to ask this member of staff individually to write your second reference.
  • If you are currently doing a research project, your second reference should be your project supervisor. This would apply to 4th Year Integrated Masters students and 3rd year integrated masters students and MSc students, after your project supervisor has been allocated.

Who needs to fill in this form?

  • Students who do not have personal contact with an academic to write a second reference
  • Students who require an extra reference (e.g. for those applying to Oxbridge)

Conditions of Reference Request

The support office and academic members of staff work on a four working-week timeline to allocate you with your reference writer. We do not give preference to applications which have earlier deadlines. We work on queue basis, completing the forms submitted earliest to ensure these are completed within the four weeks.

If you know you have a specific deadline please complete this form at least four weeks before the application submission deadline so that this will be processed in time for your deadlines.

Please note that the reference will only be supplied if the following conditions are met;

  1. You are only required to submit only one reference request if you are submitting similar applications (for example, if you are applying to similar courses across different universities). Please do not submit several applications as this makes it difficult to track your application. If you make a mistake and need to resubmit a form with new applications, please contact @stats.ug.support@warwick.ac.uk and we can remove this so you can submit your application in one place. Please try and prepare all the institutions/internships/jobs you wish to apply to before you submit this form.
  2. You fill in all the information on this form completely. We cannot assist with writing an application if you are missing crucial information.
  3. You must complete this form before submitting your application. You must do this at least four weeks before the application submission deadline. Due to the high numbers of reference requests received by the support office, we are unable to prioritise reference requests if you have not given yourself enough time for this process to be completed.
  4. You will be sent the contact details of the nominated member of staff and must enter the provided contact details in your application. Entering the contact details for a person who has not been nominated in your application will mean that you will not be given a reference.
