You Said, We Did

As a Statistics student, your experiences and opinions are vital in helping us to shape and improve teaching, learning and student support. Through mechanisms such as the Student Staff Liaison Committee (SSLC), and participation in surveys such as the National Student Survey (NSS) and the Postgraduate Taught Experience Survey (PTES), your feedback allows us to continually enhance your learning experience.

You asked for accreditation by the Royal Statistical Society...

With effect from the 2014/15 academic year, the majority of our degree programmes are accredited by the Royal Statistical Society. Full details of the conditions for accreditation can be found on the RSS webpage.

You wanted an increased level of student participation in decision making...

To facilitate integration between the SSLC and the Teaching Committee (TC), the SSLC meetings now take place one week before the TC meeting, allowing the department to consult the student body before any changes are made to the teaching programme and allowing recommendations and suggestions made in SSLC to be considered at the next TC meeting without undue delay.

The Teaching Committee now has a greater level of student representation at each meeting, with two Undergraduate SSLC representatives and one Postgraduate SSLC representative present at each meeting, with the capacity for greater numbers where required.

You wanted information on aggregate student performance on individual modules...

Information is now provided on each module intranet webpage on the proportion of module marks falling within each class boundary.

You requested funding for subject-specific training...

A fund was created to provide a source of financal support for taught students from the Department of Statistics (MORSE, MathStat, Data Science, MSc) to undertake training related to their degree programme, and to help students cover costs associated with M-Level dissertations.

Further details on how to apply for funding, including the types of expenditure which might be supported and the criteria by which applications may be supported, can be found here.
