I am keenly interested in continuing teacher development, and the use of educational technology to improve pedagogical methods and student learning.
I currently work in the Centre as Assistant Professor/Director of Studies within the Short Course Section. I have also worked as Assistant Director of Studies for 10 years on the Pre-sessional English Course I have over 35 years of EFL/EAP/ESP teaching, and a particular interest in Teacher Training and professional development. Prior to working at Warwick, I having worked overseas in Iran, and also in the Canary Islands, Spain. My key areas of expertise include: English Language Teaching, training and continuing professional development. Team Building Leading Change Curriculum Design Course Planning, Design & Administration E-Learning/ Educational Technology Exam writing and Assessment Whilst in Iran, I worked as an Education Officer at the British Embassy, where I also taught and examined for IELTS. I was Local Secretary for the University of Cambridge Local Examination Syndicate throughout the country. I worked with the Ministry of Education to help re-introduce the Cambridge EFL exams, including the training of local staff to examine and administer the tests. Whilst in the Canary Islands, I founded a British secondary School, and was Headteacher for 15 years, during which time I lead the school through several formal inspections, to become a fully accredited Centre for Cambridge University's International Examinations, City and Guilds and Edexcel International Exams. Since my return to the UK in 2010, I have worked as a Course Organiser and EAP/ESP/EFL teacher at City College, Coventry and Foundation Campus, Coventry University. I also lead the development of an IFP programme at City College, and was part of an exam writing team. On completion of a Post Graduate Award in Technology Enhanced Learning, I have been awarded Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy. I have led several projects for my department overseas, most recently the Professional Development for English Language Teachers programme, in Shanghai (2018), and Yunnan Province (2019).
