Research Interests

I am keenly interested in continuing teacher development, and the use of educational technology to improve pedagogical methods and student learning.

I currently work in the Centre as Teaching Fellow/Director of Studies on both Short Courses and the Pre-sessional English Course.

I have almost 30 years of EFL/EAP/ESP teaching, having worked overseas in Iran, and also in the Canary Islands, Spain. My key areas of expertise include:

  • EFL/EAP/ESP teaching and IELTS preparation
  • Team Building
  • Leading Change
  • Curriculum Design
  • Course Planning, Design & Administration
  • E-Learning/ Educational Technology
  • Teacher training and CPD

Whilst in Iran, I worked as an Education Officer at the British Embassy, where I also taught and examined for IELTS. I was Local Secretary for the University of Cambridge Local Examination Syndicate throughout the country. I worked with the Ministry of Education to help re-introduce the Cambridge EFL exams, including the training of local staff to examine and administer the tests.

Whilst in the Canary Islands, I founded a British secondary School, and was Headteacher for 15 years, during which time I lead the school through several inspections, to become a fully accredited Centre for Cambridge University's International Examinations, City and Guilds and Edexcel International Exams.

Since my return to the UK in 2010, I have worked as a Course Organiser and EAP/ESP/EFL teacher at City College, Coventry and Foundation Campus, Coventry University. I also lead the development of an IFP programme at City College, and was part of an exam writing team.

I also currently work as an IELTS examiner, and for the British Council as an online examiner for their APTIS test.

On completion of a Post Graduate Award in Technology Enhanced Learning, I have been awarded Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy
