Request list

We do not have funds to purchase materials, but are very interested in hearing from anyone willing to donate materials that we do not have, especially for the period up to 1979. Please consult our cataloguesLink opens in a new window to ascertain whether or not we already possess certain materials you may be interested in donating, then contact us by email (R.C.Smith@warwick.ac.uk) if you like.

Some notes for potential donors of materials are here.

Thanks to Harvey Smith, in May 2016 we filled in some gaps in our collections of English Teaching Forum and English Language Teaching, and in September 2016 Gwenneth Jones helped us fill out our collection of Audio-Visual Language Journal. See further below for issues still missing from our collection.

In September 2013 we received a donation of a full run of Modern English Teacher from 4/1 to 12/4 from Heather Kempson. We are now looking for only a few issues to complete the set.

to In October 2010, Mary Trimble generously donated issues of the following journals to fill gaps in our collection - IATEFL Newsletter (we are still missing many issues though, especially for the earliest years - see below); ELT Journal (we are still seeking volumes 1 to 4); English Teaching Forum (see below for missing issues); The ESP Journal (later, English for Specific Purposes) (we are now missing only issues 7/2 and 12/1); TESOL Quarterly (still, we would like to acquire volumes 2-4); Language-Teaching Abstracts (we now have a complete set); and World Englishes (we are still lacking 4/4 -11/1); Mary also donated a number of copies of TESOL Newsletter from the 1980s and we're interested both in filling in gaps and acquiring earlier issues (again, see below for details of issues we're missing).

Thanks to Rod Bolitho we acquired an almost complete set of Dunford House seminar reports (The British Council) from their beginning (1978) to 1996. Rosalyn Hurst later supplied the missing report from 1989, titled 'Managing ELT aid projects for sustainability'. Were any seminars held after 1996? - we'd welcome information.

We're very grateful to Roger Bowers for recently donating his collection of the very first issues of journals including TESOL Quarterly, RELC Journal, English Teaching Forum, and Language Teaching Abstracts, and for supplying missing volumes in the series we hold of English Language Teaching. We're hoping other donors might now step forward to complete our holdings of these journals, up to 1980 in particular (see below).

Thanks to a recent donation by Andy Gillett, we now have all issues of the Modern English Teacher published prior to 1993.  All issues, that is, except the very first: Volume 1, Number 1 (published we think in 1972). We are now of course extremely keen to obtain a copy of this historic first number!

In general, we are collecting journals dated up to and including 1999 only. Here is a list of journal volumes/issues we have not yet been able to collect but which we are particularly interested in acquiring:
